A Space to Create
Erin Souder loves to create and is the voice behind the daily DIY and home style blog, House of Earnest. She is a Columbus-based creative who works in product development and specializes in floral design and event styling. In her spare time, Erin likes to make lists (and check things off them). She lives in a 100-year-old farmhouse with her husband and their schnauzer, Perry.
I am a creature of my environment. I like to pretty up my work habitat before I start a project — sometimes, taking care of my surroundings is the project! I love working in a place that is fresh and natural, an open space for my mind to wander.

Curating a space starts with the big things. A functional, sturdy desk, storage solutions, a comfy place to perch, and a soft rug are the perfect foundation; a large piece of art kicks off the quirk. There are plenty of spaces to hold crafty goodies, surfaces to set works in progress and room to create. I like to combine comfort with minimalism so that there is still room to think and breathe.

Add on some necessities, like a telephone, desk lamp, pencil corral, and mouse pad. Inspiring details like small pieces of art, plants, and a place to stick a few favorite photos set the tone.

If there is anything I love more than home décor, it’s supplies. Most of the time, I have no clue what I’m going to do with a supply or material that I purchase, but I know that the item itself and the space I’m creating in will lead me in the right direction.
I think the only thing missing is this picture is me — I’d like to jump right in and get to work! What makes you feel creative in your space?
